Meet Kate

Kate Emerson, LCSW-C

Kate EmersonI am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW-C) in the state of Maryland, and the founder of Strength In Me Counseling.  I graduated from the University of Baltimore with a Master’s Degree in clinical social work.  I have been practicing in the field of social work and therapy for many years, and I have experience working with a diverse clientele in a variety of settings including school settings (k-12), outpatient clinic settings focusing on trauma, couples, and families, The Department of Social Services working with youth in foster care, foster parents, and biological families, and adolescent residential settings.  My specialties are in the areas of trauma, couples, and children.

I believe that everyone has the power to change and to heal. Everyone can benefit from having someone to talk to when things get tough (whether feeling overly stressed or going through a tough part of life such as divorce, loss of employment, dealing with a difficult child, relationship issues, past abuse, communication issues, etc…).

I am committed to helping you find or regain your sense of strength, passion and well-being in a safe, non-judgmental environment and through a client-therapist relationship based on trust, empathy, and rapport. I will work with you to incorporate my knowledge and skills with your own life experience, strengths, knowledge, and needs to build or to add to your toolbox of skills to help more easily cope with life situations.  Ultimately, I really enjoy working alongside people, to aid you in becoming empowered and in setting and achieving goals personally and professionally.

I engage people through couples counseling, family counseling, and individual therapy, utilizing a multitude of different therapy approaches including play therapy, narrative therapy, expressive therapy, etc..

***I am expanding and adding well qualified therapists who are good at and love what they do, and come from a strengths based, individualized, holistic perspective.
